Will Smith and his son Jaden joined forces yet again for their new movie “After Earth” and before they hit the red carpet in New York they opened up about working together and how their family’s values mean they are nothing like the Kardashians.
After Will and son Jaden teamed up for “Pursuit of Happiness” it’s no surprise that the father-son duo came together again for another movie.
Their sci-fi flick “After Earth” premiered in New York on Wednesday and as it turns out this certainly won’t be their last movie venture together.
“I definitely would do another one, absolutely,” Jaden Smith said when asked if he would do another film with his father. “You know, how Johnny Depp and Tim Burton always do movies together, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio? We’ll have a relationship like that.”
He went on to explain that while their father-son relationship does extend into the acting business, it’s important that they see each other as business partners when they are on set.
Apparently it isn’t very hard for Will to take off the parenting cap as the pair reminisced about how Will forced Jaden to film in a location with highly poisonous snakes.
“Yeah, I probably had a couple of poor parenting moments on this movie,” Will said during the interview with Vulture. “Do you know what a fer-de-lance is?”
Jaden chimed in and revealed that it is “one of the most poisonous snakes in all of Costa Rica.
“There were a couple of days where there was a high concentration of snakes [on the set],” Will continued.
“I was doing a scene, going through some tall grasses and they said, ‘Hey we caught some fer-de-lances around there, and there seems to be a lot more, and I think we should move the scene,’” Jaden explained. “I was like, ‘How many fer-de-lances did you catch?’ He’s like ‘eight.’”
While any other parent, including Jada Pinkett, would have moved the filming location for the safety of their child Will pushed Jaden to do the scene anyway and taught his son that there are huge risks to be taken in the acting industry.
“I said, ‘Well, you got em all, so it’s fine. Let’s just shoot it,’” Will added. “Yeah, if Mommy was there, that wouldn’t have gone down. As an actor, I felt like it was an authentic experience of actually being in Costa Rica.”
Jaden was also questioned about being spotted out and about with Kylie Jenner but instead of questioning about their possible relationship the interviewer asked a question that seemed to rub Will Smith the wrong way.
The pair was asked if they considered themselves to be similar or different than the Kardashian Klan and Will initially responded by laughing and telling Jaden not to answer that.
“So how do you think your life is similar or un-similar to people’s names in Calabasa,” Will said as he rephrased the question and mocked the interviewer. “For our family, the entire structure of our life, our home, our business relationships – the entire purpose is for everyone to be able to create in a way that makes them happy. Fame is almost an inconsequential by-product of what we’re really trying to accomplish. We are trying to put great things into the world, we’re trying to have fun, and we’re trying to become the greatest versions of ourselves in the process of doing things we love. So the idea of fame or exploitation of orchestrating the media is sometimes even less than desirable for us.”
While he never directly called out the Kardashians he definitely ripped the fame loving family a new one if you read between the lines.
Anyway, the family did take to the red carpet of “After Earth” together and they were certainly quite the stylish family.
Will stepped out in a red and black suit while son Jaden looked ever so dapper in an all white number.
Jada showed Kim K how a floral print dress should be done as she rocked a Blumarine dress with a pair of Azzedine Alaia sandals that tied the look together perfectly.
The real star of the family, as admitted by Will and Jaden, was Willow Smith.
At the age of 12 she is already making some daring fashion choices and we’re loving most of them.
Willow donned a black wig with a bang cut and slipped into a stunning pair of trousers and a button up that gave a chic, feminine twist on a menswear inspired ensemble.
Other stars who hit the carpet for the premiere included Vivica Fox, Sheree Fletcher, and none other than Jaden’s rumored boo Kylie Jenner (whose outfit was a bit much for a 15-year-old).
